Privacy Policy
Thistleberry Cake Studio is a small, made-to-order cake studio in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire. We only collect what we need to quote for and make your cake, we keep it safe, and we never sell it. If you have a question about your information, please just ask.
What We Collect
When you make an enquiry or place an order we collect the details you give us: your name, email address, telephone number, your event date and venue or delivery address, and the design, flavour and dietary information needed to make your cake. If you upload inspiration photographs with an enquiry, we store those alongside it.
We only ask for what we need to quote for, plan and deliver your cake.
Orders placed through our online shop are processed by Shopify, which handles the checkout and payment on our behalf. Card details are entered directly with the payment provider and are never seen or stored by us. We receive the order details, contact information and delivery address needed to fulfil your order.
Our website uses cookies and similar technology to keep your basket working, to keep the site secure, and to understand in aggregate how pages are used so we can improve them. Some pages embed content from third parties such as Google and Instagram, which may set their own cookies.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the shop may not work as intended if you do.
How We Use It
We use your information to answer your enquiry, prepare your quotation, confirm your booking, make your cake to the agreed design and dietary requirements, arrange delivery or collection, and take payment.
We may contact you about your enquiry or order — for example to confirm details, request final payment, or arrange delivery times. We only send marketing messages if you have asked us to, and you can ask us to stop at any time.
We keep records of orders and payments to meet accounting and tax obligations, and we keep allergen and dietary notes so we can produce your cake safely.
Sharing
We share information only where it is necessary to run the studio: our shop and payment platform, our website and email hosting, and — where relevant to your order — your florist or venue for set-up arrangements.
We never sell your personal information, and we do not share it for third-party advertising.
We may disclose information where we are required to by law, or to respond to a lawful request from a public authority.
Your Rights
Enquiries that do not become orders are kept while they are still useful to us and then deleted. Order and payment records are kept for as long as accounting and tax rules require. Photographs of finished cakes may be kept for our portfolio; if your cake appears on our website or social media and you would prefer it did not, just ask and we will remove it.
Under UK data protection law you can ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or object to how we use it. To make a request, email us and we will respond as quickly as we can.
If you are not happy with how we have handled your information, you can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
We may update this policy from time to time — for example if we change how the shop works. The version on this page is always the current one.
